MONDAY
Mixed Baroque Ensemble 2:30-3:30
Open to recorders, flutes, oboes, violins, voices, harpsichord, lutes, cellos and viols. Focus is on baroque sonatas with basso continuo. Emphasis on ensemble playing, interpretation, and ornamentation. Pitch is A415.
Advanced Mixed Renaissance Performance Consort 7:30-9:00
Participants should have good technical and reading skills. Focus will be on musical communication, memorization and stage presentation as we prepare for performances in local churches and community venues. You should be comfortable playing SATB, alto up an octave, and trills. Bowed strings, lutes, voices, renaissance reeds and brass instruments, as well as recorders.
WEDNESDAY
Brain Train 10:00 AM-11:30 PM
This class will focus on several elements of recorder fundamentals. Each class will begin with technical warm-ups, proceed to sight reading new pieces, and end with working on the performance piece for the final recital. An opportunity to learn to switch comfortably between C and F fingerings, read bass clef, and become more comfortable with cut time and meter changes. Download music here.
Renaissance Consort 6:30-7:30
Advanced players have an opportunity to learn Renaissance fingerings and play Renaissance music from modern editions.
Early Notation Class 7:30 Pm-9:00 Pm
Intermediate early notation class with Renaissance recorders and Renaissance fingerings
THURSDAY
Early Notation Class 5:30-6:30
Advanced early notation class with Renaissance recorders and Renaissance fingerings
Intermediate Consort 6:30-8:00
Participants should be able to play C and F fingerings, read alto-up-an-octave, and bass clef. Opportunity to play Renaissance and Baroque music as well as some contemporary and Medieval pieces. The repertoire will guide our focus on technical aspects such as tuning, sound production and clean passagework.
FRIDAY
Madrigal Feast 10:30-12:00
We will feast on English consort music and enjoy side dishes of Italian madrigals and French Baroque music. An occasional German Renaissance treat for desert. Opportunity to learn new fingerings and get comfortable with cut time and meter changes.
SUNDAY
Boston Recorder Society 7:00-9:30
